The Illusion is possibly my favorite song of both EP’s. It’s the oldest song, and sets the tone in my mind for the rest of the EP. Like all the songs in this collection, it’s raw and emotional, if poetically so.
For me, it’s meaning can get kind of specific. Generally, it’s about the ugly truths we cannot stand to face, and the lies we tell each other and ourselves to get through the day. It’s about betrayal, the inevitable let downs, and how, in spite of everything, life goes on.
lyrics
I’ll sing you a song, we’ll make a toast
Send of the ones we love the most with the gentlest illusion
I couldn’t aspire to more than this
I couldn’t impart more than the bliss of a well-spun confusion

Given your act, it should go well, Nobody thinks
to look in hell for the one for whom they’re rooting
And every night I lie awake, Thinking of
all of the misdates I’ve made, Attribute them to you

Que up your angels, send me a lie…
